A study highlights the role of the private sector in IoT global governance

An analysis of co-membership networks of four major Internet of things (IoT) international organisations (i.e., Open Connectivity Foundation, oneM2M, Thread Group, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) sheds light on the role the private sector has in shaping global IoT governance. According to the results of the study, (1) private organisations take the lead in shaping the agenda and discourse of IoT global governance’ (2) overtime, within the private sector, only a few actors remain in control of information flow and agenda-setting; and (3) there is a growing diversity in the field in terms of industrial and regional origin.
