Study finds TikTok videos were used to spread vaccine misinformation

The Institute for Strategic Dialogue, a London-based think tank, analyzed 124 videos that used speech from TikTok videos to spread misinformation and generate fear about vaccine side-effects. The videos analysed had more than 20 million views in total. The platform is known for its viral trends where users create their own videos using a speech clip. Tiktok representatives claimed that the company reviews the audio of rule-breaking videos and might prevent them from being used as what they call ‘Sounds’ by other users. The company explained the spread of misinformation Sounds were caused by human content moderation errors. Last week, TikTok announced that it would implement changes to  its content-moderation systems for certain content, moving to fully automated reviewing systems in some categories.
