Director of the Stranger Things documentary dismisses claims of ChatGPT use in the series finale

The director of the Stranger Things documentary has dismissed claims that the show’s creators used ChatGPT to write the series finale.

Speculation began after viewers noticed what appeared to be an AI platform icon on a laptop during One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5, which premiered on Monday.

Director Martina Radwan told The Hollywood Reporter that there was no proof ChatGPT was used, adding that having such tools open does not mean they were involved in writing.

She said it would be unrealistic to rely on AI to develop a complex storyline with nearly 20 characters and multiple overlapping plotlines.

Radwan said she witnessed creative discussions in the writers’ room and observed no unethical use of generative AI during production.
