The Spanish government has granted the merger of French mobile operator Orange’s Spanish business with its rival MasMovil. This decision, announced by Digital Transformation Minister Jose Luis Escriva on 12 March 2024, represents the final formal step following approval from the EU in February 2024.

Escriva emphasised that the accompanying industrial plan for the merged entity, which will become Spain’s largest operator with over 30 million mobile customers, is highly ambitious. It includes substantial investments in both fixed and mobile infrastructure, as stated during a news conference. The European Union previously approved the merger in February 2024
