Snap sued over patent infringement
Snap is facing a lawsuit for allegedly infringing on patented video-overlay and augmented reality features from a competing app acquired in 2016. The lawsuit claims Snap had shown interest in purchasing the technology but later declined, stating it did not align with their vision.
Snapchat maker Snap has been sued for copying video-overlay and augmented reality features from a competing app it allegedly illegal acquired in 2016.
In a lawsuit filed in California, Playvuu Founder Shane Pollack accused Snap of stealing patented technology. According to the lawsuit, Pollack and Snap representatives spoke in 2016 about possibly purchasing his technology. Pollack asserts that he showed the app to Snap officials during the meeting, and that they responded favorably. Still, Snap later told Pollack that the company ‘didn’t see a fit’ for his technology.
