Singapore telecommunications infrastructure to be upgraded with more free content for all

Singapore’s telecommunications infrastructure will be upgraded in order to enhance Internet services provided to residential districts. Along with this, more entertainment and news content will be available to users free of charge. This follows the measures put in place to combat Covid-19 which require the majority of citizens to work and study from home. The shift from office spaces to residences increases the demand for consistency in the quality of residential Internet access. Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) will facilitate local telecom operators in the required network upgrades to strengthen national capacity. The IMDA is also collaborating with content providers to make all users have access to more content for free regardless of subscription status. Measures are being taken with students from low-income households in the provision of subsidised computer hardware and broadband access.
