Singapore police advise public to secure IoT home devices

Singapore police instructed the public to secure their IoT home devices such as internet protocol (IP) cameras, smart televisions, and digital locks. The announcement includes recommendations for the public such as: creating a guest network under Wi-Fi router for smart home devices; using a secure Wi-Fi connection when accessing the smart devices via mobile applications; changing the names of the Wi-Fi router and smart devices; changing devices’ pre-set password; enabling 2-factor authentication; patching and updating the firmware regularly; and disabling unused features of smart devices to block potential entry points.
