Scientists have discovered a new superconducting qubit called the unimon

The new superconducting quibit called unimon could bring commercialised quantum computers one step closer.

Researchers from Aalto University, IQM Quantum Computers, and VTT Technical Research Centre have discovered a new superconducting qubit called the unimon. The unimon is supposed to accelerate the accuracy of quantum computers and allow a faster commercialisation of quantum computers.

The current qubit design used does not provide the needed performance capacity for practical applications. The unimon, in comparison, unites in a single circuit the desired properties of increased anharmonicity and other factors such as reduced sensitivity to magnetic noise.
