Russia’s Internet disconnection tests successful
Russia’s government has confirmed the conclusion of testing that occurred over a few days, involving government agencies, local internet service providers (ISPs) and local internet companies, during which the country was successfully disconnected from the worldwide internet. This test was to prove whether the national internet infrastructure named RuNet could operate without accessing the global Domain Name System (DNS) and internet traffic was re-routed internally. These tests which were planned over multiple years also required the government to pass legislation as well as the local internet infrastructure to be physically modified and established Russia’s RuNet as the largest intranet in the world.
