Russian president calls for moral rules for human-AI interaction

Speaking at a conference in Moscow on 9 November 2019, Russian president Vladimir Putin suggested that ‘the professional community and companies should contemplate drawing up a set of moral rules for interaction between humans and artificial intelligence (AI)’. Putin also recalled that ‘technology must not be invented for the sake of technology’ and that the overall goal should be to achieve ‘sustainable and harmonious development, a higher life quality and new opportunities for citizens’. According to the president, addressing the social implications of artificial intelligence is an important issue that needs to be tackled with priority.
