Russian competition authority to investigate YouTube dominant position

Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) initiated an investigation against Alphabet for allegedly abusing its market position with YouTube. The FAS considers that YouTube has abused its dominant position by making biased choices in terms of moderation of content and users. In this regard, the authority alleges that YouTube policies concerning the suspension or deletion of users’ accounts are ‘opaque, biased and unpredictable’. The fact that the platform can ban users and content under these opaque rules would seriously infringe the interests of users and restrict competition.
