Royal Society publishes 12 criteria for digital health passport development

The UK Royal Society has published a report proposing 12 criteria for the development and use of COVID-19 vaccine passports. The report notes that current evidence suggests a COVID-19 vaccine passport system is feasible; however, consideration should be given to what longer-term precedents such technology may create – for instance, the implications associated with the commercial accessibility of registers and expanded health surveillance by the state. The proposed criteria include that digital vaccine passports should meet agreed upon benchmarks for COVID-19 immunity, accommodate for differences between vaccines in their efficacy, and be internationally standardised.
