Romanian president signs bill to ban Huawei from 5G

According to a Reuters report, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis signed a bill that effectively bans China and Huawei from participating in the development of 5G networks in the country due to security concerns. The bill was approved by Prime Minister Florin Citu in April, and the parliament subsequently passed the bill. The bill is built upon the US-Romania memorandum that was signed in 2019. At the signing, the two governments had said careful and complete evaluation of 5G vendors is necessary, as part of a risk-based security approach.
