Revision of the EU Radio Equipment Directive requests a single USB standard

The European Commission has proposed the changes in its Radio Equipment Directive requesting the harmonisation of USB standards used for charging and connecting mobile devices. In particular, it proposes USB-C to become the standard port for all smartphones, tablets, cameras, headphones, portable speakers and handheld video game consoles.

In addition, the European Commission is looking at measures to unbound the sale of chargers from the sale of devices. This also might help in reducing the amount of e-waste created by such practices.
