Research shows that IPv6 connection speeds have considerably improved over time

Researchers at the University of Bremen have tested the connection times for the top 10 000 most visited websites (based on Alexa rankings) over both IPv4 and IPv6. The result of their research was that, as of May 2016, 18% of these websites are faster over IPv6, while 91% of the rest are at most 1 millisecond (ms) slower over IPv6 than IPv4. Netflix, Yahoo, Youtube, and Google were identified at the top of the websites that are faster over IPv6. According to The Register, this is a significant improvement from few years ago, when IPv6 connections were often so slow that browsers timed out. Some browsers favour the use of IPv6 over IPv4 and include a timer to decide whether to shift over to IPv4.
