A region in Ukraine affected by a power outage caused by hackers

A power outage that affected homes in Ukraine’s Ivano-Frankivsk region for several hours on 23 December 2015 is said to have been caused by a cyberattack that disconnected electrical substations from the grid. Researches note that this is the first incident they know of where an attack caused a blackout. According to them, the attackers used a kind of malware that wiped files off computer systems, shutting them down and resulting in the blackout.
