Reddit introduces blockchain based community points

The social networking site Reddit has introduced a new programme called ‘community points’ to create incentive for quality content from its community. Users who participate in their various groups will be awarded points for quality posts and comments. Other users will participate in determining how many points a user will get. In addition, users can tip on posts they find useful.

The programme is based on ethereum blockchain and is already being tested on two communities. The points will act as a measure of reputation and can be used to buy premium features such as badges, custom emojis and GIFs in comments. Hootsuite, a social media use tracker reported that Reddit was the fastest growing social networking site in 2019, having garnered an average of 430 million users each month.
