Quantum industry alliance established in Japan

Twenty-four Japanese companies – including  Fujitsu, Hitachi, Toshiba and Toyota – have announced the establishment of a Quantum Strategic Industry Alliance for Revolution (Q-STAR) to promote initiatives in quantum technologies. The alliance will cooperate with other industry members, academia, and governmental entities in supporting advancements in quantum-related science and technology. Activities envisioned to be undertaken will aim to (a) investigate and research trends in quantum technology; (b) investigate, research, and propose industrial applications of quantum technology; (c) investigate and share information on materials and devices required for quantum technology; (d) investigate, plan, and make proposals on how to develop the human resources needed to make full use of quantum technology; (e) investigate necessary information on intellectual property and standardisation, ethics, and trust required for the implementation of quantum technology; (f) cooperate with other organisations in Japan and overseas working in quantum-related areas. Through these and other activities, Q-STAR intends to support Japan’s objective of positioning itself as a quantum technology innovation-oriented nation.
