Public interest organisations and experts urge the UN to include human rights safeguards in the proposed UN Cybercrime Treaty

According to a report, the Ad Hoc Committee responsible for drafting a Potential United Nations Cybercrime Treaty have been urged by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), along with nearly 130 organizations and academics working in 56 countries to ensure that the protection of human rights is embedded in their final work. The proposed treaty according to the report is to deal with cybercrime, international corporation and “access to potential digital evidence by law enforcement authorities. It also would likely safeguard procedures for human rights protection.
