Private sector contributes US$70M to Gavi
A wide range of corporations, foundations, and philanthropists pledged more than USD$70 million to support Gavi’s efforts to strengthen its vaccination programmes in the least developed countries. Among many others, Tiktok pledged US$10 million to support Gavi’s work in Africa for potential COVID-19 vaccines, as well as for its routine immunisation programmes. Airtel, a Nigerian mobile telecommunications company, will contribute US$5.9 million in cash and in-kind services to the E-Reporting Project, which will digitise a paper-based vaccine reporting system and provide digital tools to healthcare workers in Nigeria to access accurate data. Gamers Without Borders (GWB), the Saudi Arabian government’s initiative, has raised more than US$13 million thus far for Gavi through an online gaming competition.
