Privacy non-profit Tor lays off staff due to COVID-19

The non-profit Tor Project announced that it was forced to lay off a significant part of its team responsible for the privacy-preserving Tor browser, as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. The organization has indicated having to lay off 13 staff ‘to ensure the Tor Project continues to exist and our technology stays available’. According to Mashable, a reduced team will mean that less people will be working on ‘the vital project that is keeping your web-browsing habits secure from the prying eyes of ISPs, data brokers, and governments.’
