Preliminary consultation on autonomous vehicles open in the UK

The Law Commissions of England, Wales and Scotland have launched an open consultation regarding the regulatory framework for autonomous vehicles on the UK, which could lead to recommendations for a draft bill on self-driving cars. The consultation is open until February 2019 and is the third part of a three-year project that began on March 2018, scheduled to end by 2021. The consultation will cover three main topics: how safety can be assured before automated vehicles are placed on the market; issues regarding criminal and civil liability; and the need to adapt road rules for artificial intelligence.
