During the 14th edition of the International Conference of Information Commissioners on Monday, the Philippines’ President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced the Freedom of Information (FOI) program.

The programme comes as a response to growing disinformation and misinformation in the country and consists of a digital, multi-media, and youth-oriented media and information literacy campaign.

In the Philippines, most people use social media platforms to access news. During the 2022 national elections campaign, President Marcos was accused of having benefitted from false and misleading claims about his educational degree during his presidential campaign. Marcos claimed that he refused offers to use troll armies to boost his image. At the same time, his political peers said he was a disinformation victim.
