Pentagon announces big push to incorporate 5G technology for military use

A major initiative has been announced by the US Defense Department launching the integration of commercial 5G technologies within the military’s communications networks. The Pentagon is expected to issue a request for proposals during November inviting respondents to provide innovative ideas on how 5G capabilities could be utilised within a military context. The experiments resulting from the ideas would be conducted at four distinct bases in the US and focus on three specific areas: Augmented and virtual reality for military training, “smart warehouses” for the military services’ logistics functions, and ways to share radio frequencies in “mid-band” portions of the electromagnetic spectrum that are used by high-powered military radios.
