Partnership on AI call for governments to facilitate AI expert mobility

The Partnership on AI has released a set of recommendations on visa laws, policies, and practices aimed at accelerating the global mobility of professionals in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). The group underlines the importance of international conferences in these areas, as ‘bringing together experts from […] different cultures, socio-economic experiences, backgrounds and perspectives is essential for AI/ML to flourish’. Policymakers are encouraged to adopt laws, policies, and practices that enable individuals to attend such gatherings. The recommendations include accelerating the review of visa applications, creating AI/ML visa classifications within existing groups, and establishing just standards in evaluating visa applications for highly skilled individuals. It is also recommended that countries train their consular and immigration offices in the language of emerging technologies, to empower them to recognise visa applications from experts in these technologies.
