Pakistan blocks again TikTok over failure to take down inappropriate content

Pakistan blocked once again access to TikTok for failure to remove inappropriate content. The Telecommunication Authority said in a tweet that ‘in the light of relevant provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016, PTA has blocked access to TikTok app and website in the country’. The app said it removed more than 6 million videos from TikTok in Pakistan in the last month.

The first time the app was blocked in the country was in October 2020. The app was available again after 10 days of being blocked, when the company agreed on removing accounts that spread obscenity. In 2021, the high courts also imposed a ban on the app twice. The first one was lifted in April and the last one in June.
