Oracle opens data centre in South Africa

Oracle has opened a data centre in Africa in Johannesburg, South Africa. This, the company said, was in response to a growing need for cloud computing following the COVID-19 pandemic. The company also plans to open other data centres in West and East Africa in the next few years. South Africa’s data centre is Oracle’s 37th such facility. Oracle joins other technology companies such as Amazon, Huawei, and Microsoft which either have, or are planning to set up data centres in the continent.
