OECD launches framework for classifying AI systems

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has launched a Framework for the Classification of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Systems aimed to guide policymakers, regulators, legislators, and other stakeholders as they evaluate AI systems from a policy perspective. Among the intended uses, the framework can help promote a common understanding of AI and assist governments in tailoring policies to specific AI applications. It can also provide the basis for the development of risk assessment frameworks for AI systems, as well as frameworks for reporting about AI incidents. Within the framework, AI systems and applications are classified along five dimensions: people and planet; economic context; data and input; AI model; and task and output.
