Nigeria’s Sokoto State shut down telecom services in 14 local government areas

According to a news report the government of the northern state of Sokoto in Nigeria has ordered for the shutdown of telecommunication services in 14 out of the 23 local government areas in the state. The shutdown which affected mobile telephony and internet services from Monday 20 September, 2021 has been rationalized by state authorities as necessary to address the security challenges within the State. According to the report, although two telecommunication companies have had their services working, citizens have expressed frustration and anger, questioning the rationale for the shutdown of telecommunication and internet services.
