Nigeria partners with eGate and Visa for digital transformation and financial inclusion
This strategic alliance aims to introduce a unified digital identity and payment cards, utilizing Visa and eGate’s global expertise in digital solutions.
In collaboration with the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASDRA), the Nigerian government has agreed with eGate and Visa to enhance the country’s digital infrastructure.
This strategic partnership aims to introduce a unified digital identity, along with unified payment cards, leveraging the global prowess of Visa and eGate’s digital solutions expertise. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aligns with Nigeria’s commitment to harnessing digital technology for economic diversification and GDP growth.
The phased implementation will initially focus on launching a unified digital identity for citizens, followed by innovative solutions in healthcare, agriculture, and smart traffic systems. Subsequently, the rollout will progressively include the remaining government services, marking a significant leap towards a digitally-driven economy.
Why does it matter?
Nigeria is actively advancing its digital transformation. This month, the Federal Government introduced the Digital Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System (e-CRVS) and the National Geospatial Data Repository, significantly enhancing national planning and public service delivery. According to Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, these initiatives aim to improve government service efficiency, reduce corruption, spur economic growth, and create a more efficient, livable, and sustainable city.
