Nigeria to introduce digital driver’s licence

Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced plans to introduce a digital driving licence. FRSC Corps Marshal Dr Boboye Oyeyemi stated that the upgraded licence would have features that would guard against theft. It would also be linked to National Identification Numbers (NINs) and to relevant state departments.

Nigeria is in the process of issuing NINs to all citizens and residents. A directive by the communications regulator to link all SIM cards with NINs has led to an increase in applications for NIN registration.
