New Saudi Arabia’s data protection legislation to enter into force

According to the National Law Review, Saudi Arabia has recently enacted a new data protection law (the PDPL), which will come into force on 23 March 2022. The first standalone data protection law at the national level, the PDPL is a noticeable development, which seeks to develop the domestic legislative landscape in line with the 2030 Vision to develop a digital infrastructure and grow a digital economy. As previously reported by Inside Privacy, the Saudi Data & Artificial Intelligence Authority (“SDAIA”), the supervisory authority for the law’s application, will issue implementing regulations supplementing most aspects of the law by March 2022.
