New law in Japan allows Airbnb to operate legally

In Japan, a recent law setting out rules for home sharing/renting has brought legal certainty for the operations of Airbnb in the country. The law allows private homes to rent out space to guests, while limiting total stays to 180 nights a year, and requiring owners to register with local authorities. The development was welcome by the company, which stated that the legislation ‘is clear, simple and easy to understand’, according to Bloomberg.
