New data protection legislation considered in Pakistan following changes in WhatsApp privacy policy

According to the Express Tribune, the minister for Science and Technology of Pakistan has announced efforts to introduce a new data protection law to protect citizens’ privacy in the wake of WhatsApp’s privacy policy changes.  WhatsApp indeed recently announced it will now share personal data of users including phone numbers and locations with its parent company, Facebook. The government representative stated that “instead of adopting a unilateral approach, such policy changes should have been made after wider consultation.”
