NATO publishes its first AI strategy

According to the summary of its first artificial intelligence (AI) strategy, NATO aims to integrate AI in an interoperable way to support its three core tasks. The alliance also underlined that NATO will continue to be the transatlantic forum for AI in defence and security, leveraging AI’s potential and safeguarding against the malicious use of AI by adversaries. The summary outlines principles for responsible use of AI in defence: (a) lawfulness, (b) responsibility and accountability, (c) explainability and traceability, (d) reliability, (e) governability, and (f) bias mitigation.
