NATO approves Charter of the Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic
The foreign ministers of NATO member states have approved the Charter of the Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA), an initiative dedicated to fostering cooperation between member states, the private sector, and academia on ‘harnessing the best of new technology for transatlantic security’. Programmes to be undertaken under DIANA will see defence personnel, start-ups, scientific researchers, and tech companies work together to ‘solve critical defence and security challenges’ by leveraging ’emerging and disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data processing, quantum technologies, biotechnology, novel materials, and space. NATO countries have also agreed on a multinational NATO Innovation Fund, through which €1 billion will be invested in ‘early-stage start-ups and other deep tech funds’.
