Myanmar urged to restore Internet during coronavirus crisis
There has been a call on the government of Myanmar to restore full Internet services in the townships of the Rakhine and Chin states to enable communities to access critical information in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The call contained in a news report was jointly made by the Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA) and its partner organisations Equality Myanmar, the Progressive Voice, and the Women’s League of Burma.
According to the report, FORUM-ASIA and its member organisations have further stated that the Myanmar government should, in their effort to contain the spread of coronavirus in the country, adhere to sound human rights principles. Restoring Internet access in the affected townships will uphold rights to information and guarantee access to critical information needed by the inhabitants to protect themselves.
