Morocco adopts law on new digital ID cards

Morocco’s government council has adopted a new Decree 2.20.521. The decree implements the law on the National Electronic Identity Card (CNIE), paving way for PIN based cards, linkage of the cards to mobile phones and integration with NFC technology. The new card will be available to Moroccans from the age of 16 and citizens in possession of a national identity card need not apply for the new one as the old cards are still valid.
