MIT established new college to focus on AI

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA has announced the establishment of a new college to focus on artificial intelligence (AI). Part of a broader plan including a $1 billion investment to address the rapid evolution of computing and AI, the MIT Stephen A. Schwarzman College of Computing is set to open in September 2019. It will function as an ‘interdisciplinary hub for work in computer science, AI, data science and related fields’ and will work towards reorienting the MIT to make use of computing and AI in all fields of study. The college also aims to strengthen MIT’s position as a key international player in the responsible and ethical evolution of AI technologies, through facilitating teaching and research on policy and ethical issues ‘to better ensure that the groundbreaking technologies of the future are responsibly implemented in support of the greater good.’
