Ministerial roundtable ahead of ITU Plenipotentiary concludes with Declaration on Building a Better Digital Future for All

A ministerial roundtable under the theme ‘Building a better digital future for all’ was hosted by the Romanian Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitalisation ahead of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference taking place in Bucharest between 26 September and 14 October 2022. The roundtable, which brought together ministers and high-level representatives of 52 countries, was concluded with the adoption of the Bucharest Declaration on Building a Better Digital Future for All. The declaration highlights the participants’ commitment to achieving ‘universal, secure, inclusive, and affordable access to the internet for all’, as well as to developing and adopting strategies and policies to accelerate the uptake of digital technologies and build ‘sustainable, innovation-driven digital ecosystems to empower all people’. Other priorities highlighted in the declaration include advancing capacity development and digital literacy, promoting meaningful youth engagement and gender inclusiveness, and investing in digital public services and local content.
