Meta Platforms sued by MetaX over name

Meta Platforms allegedly used the MetaX name without permission when rebranded from Facebook to Meta. The lawsuit also says the two companies’ logos are ‘conceptually identical’ as they use symmetrical shapes resembling the letter ‘M’.

MetaX, an immersive reality company founded in 2010, is suing Meta before the Manhattan federal court for trademark infringement.

Meta Platforms allegedly used the MetaX name without permission when rebranding from Facebook to Meta. MetaX claimed that Meta Platforms had violated its federal ‘Meta’ trademarks and requested the court to issue an injunction prohibiting ex-Facebook from using ‘Meta’ in connection with products and services that conflict with those of MetaX, as well as an undetermined sum in financial damages.

The lawsuit also says the two companies’ logos are ‘conceptually identical’ as they use symmetrical shapes resembling the letter ‘M’.
