Malta AI literacy programme for citizens and residents, covering safe AI use, privacy, learning, work, and certification

Malta has launched AI for All, a free national AI literacy programme for Maltese citizens and residents with an active eID account.

The initiative is led by the Malta Digital Innovation Authority, with the educational programme developed by the University of Malta. According to organisers, the programme is intended to help participants understand AI capabilities, limitations, and responsible use in everyday life, education, and work.

The programme is open to people from different backgrounds, including teenagers, students, parents, educators, job seekers, creatives, entrepreneurs, professionals, business leaders, and older adults. No previous AI knowledge is required.

Participants will access the course through an online platform linked to Malta’s eID system. The programme includes three core modules covering AI fundamentals and critical use, AI for everyday life, and AI for learning.

Users can also choose additional modules focused on professionals, job seekers, entrepreneurship, accessibility and independent living, and formal education for teachers, parents, and school communities.

Certificates will be issued after completion of the three core modules and after each additional module. Participants who complete the fundamental modules will also receive a free subscription to a designated AI platform.

The programme aims to support AI literacy by helping participants identify unreliable or misleading AI outputs, protect privacy and personal data, use AI more effectively, and make informed decisions about when AI should or should not be used.
