Malaysia and Airbnb to collaborate on tourism levy

Airbnb has agreed to collaborate with the government of Malaysia to collect a new tourism tax of $2,55 per night for Airbnb members who rent out at least five rooms. Some expect that Malaysia will widen the agreement to include Airbnb arrangements in its goods and services tax (GST). Malaysia is one of Airbnb’s fastest growing markets in Asia. The government will present potential changes in its GST in October.
