London to develop emerging technologies charter

The Mayor of London (UK), Sadiq Khan, has tasked his Chief Digital Officer and the Smart London Board with developing an Emerging Technologies Charter. The charter is intended to establish the criteria to be met by technological innovations before they are deployed in the UK capital city. It will function as a ‘framework for setting expectations around design, security, privacy and ways of working so that innovators can pitch, develop and deploy the right solutions in the capital’. In addition, the charter will structure and inform public discussions in these areas and is expected to cover issues such as ways of working with new technologies; the collection, use, of sharing of data; promoting a design that ensures digital inclusion and accessibility; and promoting privacy-by-design as a core principle.
