Leak shows U.S. Secret Service purchased phone location data from ordinary apps

According to Vice, the U.S. Secret Service purchased a product giving them access to location data generated by ordinary apps. This contract relates to the sale of Locate X, a product from the data company Babel Street. This revelation highlights the issue of law enforcement agencies buying information that would normally require a warrant to obtain. Vice obtained a copy of the contract document through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.
