Lawsuit launched in Germany over Amazon’s alleged use of invalidated EU-U.S. Privacy Shield

According to Politico, a lawsuit in Germany has been launched against Amazon over its alleged continued use of the EU-US Privacy Shield to transfer data to the USA, despite its recent invalidation by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU). The complaint was filed by the group Europäische Gesellschaft für Datenschutz (EuGD), on behalf of a German consumer. A representative of EuGD stated that: ‘the [CJEU] has made it clear that data transfers to the U.S. on the basis of the Privacy Shield are no longer permitted. If the world’s leading cloud company and largest e-commerce provider remains inactive for more than two months and ignores consumer rights, that is unacceptable’.
