Joint Statement: EU and Singapore agree to strengthen bilateral partnership on digital trade

During an inaugural Trade Committee meeting under the European Union-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (EUSFTA), the European Commission Executive Vice-President and Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis and Singapore Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations S Iswaran agreed to strengthen digital trade partnership. Such partnership is meant to support the region-to-region collaboration between the EU and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the digital trade area. It will further support the current World Trade Organization (WTO) e-commerce negotiations which will issue rules on digital trade. The EU Commissioner and Singapore Minister confirmed that cooperation in the digital economy is a priority area for both countries. To this aim, they directed EU and Singapore officials to start technical discussions and identify the relevant digital trade elements.
