Italian DPA issues €17m fine for Clearview AI

According to the International Association of Privacy Professionals, the Italian data protection authority (DPA) has fined Clearview AI 20 million euros for violations of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) related to its facial recognition software and database. “The personal data held by the company, including biometric and geolocation data, are processed unlawfully,” the DPA said in a statement. In addition to the fine, Clearview AI was ordered to delete all data collected on individuals in Italy and prohibited to continue collection and processing activities in the country.
