Italian DPA asks Facebook to provide clarifications on new smart glasses

According to Reuters, the Italian data protection authority Garante has asked Facebook  to provide clarifications regarding the newly launched smart glasses to assess whether it is compliant with current data protection laws. Euronews reports that the new Facebook smart glasses, created in partnership with Ray Ban maker EssilorLuxottica, allow wearers to listen to music, take calls, or capture photos and short videos and share them across Facebook’s services. The Italian authority indicated that information related to the measures Facebook has put in place to protect people occasionally filmed, including children, as well as on systems adopted to make data collected anonymous and features of the voice assistant connected to the glasses.
