Italian data protection authority fines company 27.8 million euros for GDPR violations

According to IAPP, the Italian data protection authority has fined 27.8 million euros a telecommunication company for GDPR violations. TIM group, the telecommunications company, made promotional phone calls without consent, in particular to individuals with numbers on the Public Register do-not-call list or previously opted out of receiving phone calls from the company. Millions of individuals were affected by this illicit marketing practice. According to TelecomPaper, the authority also ordered that TIM group keeps blacklists updated and ensure call centers no longer call people who had expressed their refusal to receive promotional calls.
